Easter Awakening

I am moving toward Easter this year (not just the Sunday, rather the whole season) with a particular measure of gratitude. As most of you know, I’ve been away recovering from surgery treating my prostate cancer. While there were some days that were unpleasant regarding the surgery and my recovery, the arc of the experience bends toward love. The movement of the story we live by reenacting the plot of the sacred narrative which begins Read more…

Holy Week Blessings

A reflection on the meaning of Holy Week by Senior Warden, Brad Flynt As Holy Week approaches, it has given me an opportunity to reflect on how meaningful the Holy Week services are at St. John’s. Last year, Adair and I attended our first Maundy Thursday service and were blown away by its beauty and humility. The word “Maundy” derives from the Latin mandatum (which translates to “command”), a reference to Jesus’ instruction to love one another, Read more…

2025 Annual Report

In reflecting back on 2025, I intend to carry forward our Advent theme and use the symbols of fire, whirlwind and water, while also looking through the lens of our ten-year strategic plan we launched this summer under the categories of Rooted, Reaching, and Leading with Love. 2025 was a difficult year and some of those challenges follow us into 2026. The year demanded we tend fire without letting it consume us. It demanded we Read more…
