Bishop Jefferts Schori has a distinguished history of service within The Episcopal Church. She was the first woman to be elected as Presiding Bishop, a position she held from 2006 to 2015. During her tenure, she focused on the church’s mission to reconcile the world to God, emphasizing social justice, environmental stewardship, and international peace.
Bishop Jefferts Schori holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Oceanography from Oregon State University and a Master of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific. Her diverse background, combining science and theology, has greatly influenced her approach to ministry, making her a visionary leader with a global perspective.
