Well-crafted words reflecting the Word

Last summer we hosted a poetry festival, “Wonder in Wyoming”, here at St. John’s. The brainchild of three poets who also happen to be Episcopal priests, Spencer Reece, Travis Helms, and Jason Myers, the event was attended by members of our congregation and reached many local poetry lovers from Jackson Hole and beyond. I remember another poet/priest once saying that he felt the best theology that has come out of our Anglican tradition has been Read more…

My Church Family

It’s getting colder. Have you noticed? Chilly fall mornings are dipping into the low 30s. It isn’t here yet, but it’s coming…winter. For some, the season brings the excitement of skiing, sledding and all manner of outdoor activities. And it’s beautiful, without question. I think of my husband or Lonnie Brown who are happiest when the snow is falling and giddy over a hint of winter in the air. I envy people who love winter. Read more…

a time to every purpose, under heaven

Here we are again at a turning of the season. Yesterday was the equinox and we are sliding into fall in this corner of creation. Most of us have survived another summer, and even though it was smoke filled and extremely busy around here, it was a beauty. Most of us survived, and I want to acknowledge that some have died. We’ve lost beloved members of our own congregation, community members, and travelers passing through. Read more…

At Ease

Yesterday I spent an hour on the phone with Whitney. It’s something I’ve done twice monthly for nearly ten years now. Whitney is my coach. And, our work together supports me both professionally and personally. The conversations, practices and exercises we have done together over the course of the last several years have been enormously helpful in my own growth. At the end of our sixty-minute sessions after we’ve summarized our work in that session, Read more…

Each of us who is devoted to this church, this town, this beloved valley knows that our current level of visitors means both Read more…
