Annual Parish Address

Dear Church, I’m grateful that you’ve taken the time to take a look at our annual report, to remember and, hopefully, be encouraged by the loving work we’ve been up to as a church over the past year. Because we still find ourselves in the midst of COVID, I’ve again recorded a short-ish state of the parish address, rather than submitting a written annual report. I hope you will take the time to view it Read more…

Building Strong Relationships

This marks one year since I returned to St. John’s full-time, and what a year it has been! Despite the pandemic, turbulent political times, departure of wonderful staff members, and loss of beloved parishioners, it has been a deeply rewarding year. And it has taken me about a year to figure out what I am truly called to do here at St. John’s. The list has become long, but wonderful and life-giving. Wind River Indian Read more…

Here’s what I Love

Hello Brothers and Sisters. As we close out 2021, year two of the strangest, most unexpected, and I feel the most difficult era of our time, we also take a look back at what we, as a church, accomplished together. For the love of music

Through the ups and downs of COVID over the past year, our musicians gave of their time and talents to make our music program a success. This past summer our Adult Choir began rehearsing and resumed singing in church. Some memorable moments were the Choir’s presentation of Lessons and Carols and leading music for the Christmas Eve Service. Even though our Children’s Choir had only four kids, they sang with such enthusiasm and beauty that Read more…

The power and the glory and the story

I’m watching the forecast. Are you? I think we’ve had snow every year at Christmas Eve since I’ve been here. Sometimes a little. Sometimes a lot. Last year we gathered outside. This year we’re back to “normal” if there even is “normal” anymore. I was thinking about that. Normal Christmas. How did Christmas get normative and routine? It’s anything but. The story, though oft told, is anything but normative. A virgin gives birth to a Read more…

Easy does it.

Dear Church, So, I’m walking around with a little felt turtle in my pocket. Maybe you are, too. I pull it out and hold it several times a day. I gave one away to Frances, as we passed each other coming and going this week. I can tell you it’s working, at least for me. It’s helping. I’m taking a slow and steady pace as we approach Advent, week three. Honestly, I’m having fun with Read more…
