Hopes Reemerge

Dear Church, Let’s be honest. We’re not wearing flip flops around here until June. Winter does what winter does and our work, as year-round residents of this beautiful place, is to find ways to live together with the cold and the snow and the ice and the gradual degrees of darkness. And so, I suppose I celebrate Ole’ Punxsutawney Phil’s willingness to look boldly into his own shadow, his repressed id, his unconscious. (Did you Read more…

A Look Under the Hood

Dear Church, Coming out of COVID has felt a lot more like climbing Gannett Peak than climbing the Grand. (Brian would know.) Our clergy year began quietly, marked by some behind the scenes recruitment of Read more…

The crystal clear message that you are Loved

There’s a busyness in the office these last few days. It’s not a stressy or frenetic busyness. It’s a good busyness. Just now passing through our office kitchen I joined Stephanie to put fresh batteries in the last few candles that will light the ice luminaria on our church campus on Christmas Eve. Haley was tending the copy machine and looking for final proofs of the 8:30 p.m. worship bulletin. The lyric that came to Read more…

Teton Valley Laundry Love

The Laundry Love program in Teton Valley, Idaho began as an experiment to spread more love from St. John Church. Deb and Kevin Hinkley, owners of General Laundry Co. in Victor are generous hosts, providing crock pots of chili in the cold months and treats to enjoy. We began in earnest in 2021 and the word started to spread in the Driggs/Victor community through monthly posts on the community Facebook site, flyers posted at the Read more…
