Joy to the Valley

By the Rev. Jimmy Bartz I suppose on the outside, and especially on Sundays with the uniform and all the Episcopal regalia, I look like a pretty serious guy. But, this time of year, on the inside, I feel like a five-year old boy again! I love Christmas. I love the lights. I love the bows. I love Rudolph and what Burl Ives did for him. I love the angels and the sheep ranchers. I Read more…

Holiday Cheer from the Browser

By Lonnie Brown, Manager of Browse ‘N Buy A couple months back, someone came in to Browse ‘N Buy and asked if he could donate a vehicle. I reached out to several non-profit groups that work with families in need. We found a perfect fit for a single mother of two young children. They were commuting from Afton and taking the bus everywhere the family of three needed to go. We gave the Nissan Pathfinder Read more…

Bring on the Adventure

Life is good. Life is strange. Life is a highway. Life is like a box of chocolates. Life is an adventure! We have these proverbs when it comes to describing the way we humans pass the time. They’re meant to be descriptive or advisory or both. For the coming weeks, I’d like to focus on adventure! Life is, life as an adventure—something unusual and something exciting. As liturgical Christians, we celebrate this season of Advent. Read more…

MacGregor Memorial Service

A Note of Thanks

Thanks We just want to say thanks. Your presence at St. John’s is huge. This is often unspoken, but we see the wonderful company you bring. Here are a few ways we’re thankful you: Church parishioners, today, we give thanks for you and all that you do. Happy Thanksgiving! “We must find the time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” ― John F. Kennedy

Setting the (Communion) Table

by: Annie Sampson My Altar Guild service has been one of the most rewarding opportunities in my life. I had never served on an Altar Guild before I arrived at St. John’s. When asked, I was honored. My mother was a member of her Altar Guild on Long Island for decades. Honestly, I didn’t give it one thought growing up. I don’t remember having even one conversation with my mom before she died in 2002 Read more…

Micro Level Discipleship

I’ve had the rich blessing of calling Jackson home now for the last 15 months. And while sometimes I feel like we’re just getting started here (and we are,) I suspect by now you know me well enough to have some sense that I’m more drawn to micro-level discipleship than I’m drawn to the macro. I’m more drawn to how God might infuse my interaction with one of you in the aisle at Smith’s than Read more…
