Lent Homework

My life was influenced tremendously by my maternal grandfather. I have his name—James or Jimmy, and I like to think I have a portion of his gift for storytelling, too. He was a master storyteller. And, I believe his gift in telling stories came from a different place than most who we would recognize as master storytellers. He wasn’t necessarily creative, not like the great authors who hold our attention as we turn the pages Read more…

Tough Conversations Reflection

A Reflection by Kirsten Farney: So many times we expect that our loving relationships should be free of conflict. That expectation can come from our cultural depictions of relationships or maybe even those that were modeled for us in life. The reality of relationship, however doesn’t always look conflict free. In fact, if I learned anything from our panel last week, it was that no matter how great of a communicator or how much expertise Read more…

February Playlist

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore. You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days. Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. The Cornerstone is Love

I’ve been thinking a lot these last few weeks about faith. Maybe you’re now thinking, “Well, of course you have, Jimmy! You’re a priest, aren’t you?” I am. AND, I believe faith is something that evolves over time. So, I’m thinking about mine, again. And, I’m thinking about yours, too. It’s my job, after all! When we limit faith to a system of beliefs, particularly as they relate to God, I feel like there’s something Read more…

Let Your Light Shine

What light shines in you? Marianne Williamson says, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened Read more…
