Our nonprofit partners have identified nearly 50 people in need of bicycles in our community. Adult and youth bikes of all shapes and sizes will be appreciated and put to good use this summer. Let’s dig through our basements and garages, find those bikes that are taking up space and collecting cobwebs, and get them into the hands of people who can use them. On June 6, the Service Committee hosted coffee hour with a project called Random Acts of Gardening. Thanks to everyone who participated and donated pots including the Browse ‘N Buy, over 40 pots were planted by gardeners age 3 to 90. Mission trips are emotionally charged experiences. It’s almost impossible to give someone your time, energy, and support without feeling a deep emotional attachment to the place, the community, or the people. Kathleen Gutierrez was the translator for the trip to Favorito, Cuba, but my four years of Spanish at the Jackson Hole Community School put me into a role of translating casual conversations and basic ideas. In 1998, St. John’s planted a seed in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico. Today, that small seed has changed the lives of over 40 abandoned and abused children. Greg David Spinks, a young deacon from St. John’s with an overwhelming compassion for the less fortunate went to northern Mexico to immerse himself in mission work.
