St. John’s News

What We Can

Underestimating is just one of those things we do. We watch the news or we read it on a device and along with it comes a sense of dread or a measure of hopelessness. We hear from one of our beloved that she’s struggling. Loss comes along and wrecks us because loss is devastating. Critical illness shows up somewhere on the family tree. At the nadir of these circumstances, there’s a sense of powerlessness. We Read more…

A Lever, A Partner, A Vehicle

I buy the story, the Jesus story, each movement of it, and I take that story as the guiding principle of my life. Thankfully, we come from a tradition that doesn’t diminish the story of Jesus by insisting that every Read more…

Revelations Newsletter | June

Take a peek at the June Revelations Newsletter Something newish is upon us in Jackson. Warmth! It’s back! And, it’s wonderful. Everyone’s talking about warmth—at the gym, in line at the grocery store, and in Hansen Hall Read more…

Me and Julio

Mission trips are emotionally charged experiences. It’s almost impossible to give someone your time, energy, and support without feeling a deep emotional attachment to the place, the community, or the people. Kathleen Gutierrez was the translator for the trip to Favorito, Cuba, but my four years of Spanish at the Jackson Hole Community School put me into a role of translating casual conversations and basic ideas. This meant that Kathleen had to do all the Read more…

La Gran Familia Orphanage

In 1998, St. John’s planted a seed in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico. Today, that small seed has changed the lives of over 40 abandoned and abused children. Greg David Spinks, a young deacon from St. John’s with an overwhelming compassion for the less fortunate went to northern Mexico to immerse himself in mission work. After arriving in Cuauhtémoc, Greg witnessed the appalling conditions of children roaming the streets and realized the dire need for an appropriate living Read more…
