Everyone Deserves to Have Health and Hope

Published by St. John's on

AMOS Health and Hope in Nicaragua is dedicated to reducing preventable deaths and improving the health and well-being of people who suffer from the unjust conditions of poverty. AMOS’ programs empower local leaders to build upon their strengths and respond to the needs they identify within their communities.

Since 2023, St. Johns has sent a mission team annually to work with AMOS to help support this work. Clean water is essential to health, so we have installed water filters in rural homes miles from any main roads and often up steep paths. We have monitored the health of children and of pregnant women to ensure proper nutrition and even met with women to help them learn about menstruation and how to better manage their monthly periods. These communities are often miles from any formal healthcare facility. Children love our visits as we bring stories and craft projects that help them have fun and make gifts to bring home to share with their families…along with songs and lots of laughter. All of this brings joy and shares God’s love to remote communities.

We are again forming our team for March of 2026. If you are interested, please join us after the service on Sunday, September 7 in the Donnan Meeting Room at about 11:30 a.m. If you have questions, please contact Carol Harvey, RN – St. John’s AMOS Mission Team Facilitator at carol@harveycs.com.
