Belonging to a Team

Published by St. John's on

We interview volunteers from around the church about why they love St. John’s and how they’re finding belonging. Today, we’re chatting with JR Dalby. JR lives in Jackson and has been in the valley for 12 years working as a security professional. He serves as the Junior Warden on the vestry and is the original audiovisual guru on our team. He is inspired by the work and the people of St. John’s Church.

We’ve forever changed the way we are bringing church each week and livestreamed services are here to stay. From our initial recordings on an iPhone 11 to a state-of-the-art recording system, our audiovisual knowledge has come a long way. The installation of 4 cameras in the fall of 2020 and a fifth in 2021, allows us to stream from a variety of locations in the church and Hansen Hall. We are so grateful to our audiovisual team for their willingness to grow and attend trainings. Our viewership is a fun metric where we can see how we connect with folks from around the state, country and world!

JR is a member of the AV team, along with Annie Sampson, Robyn Reed, Haley Ross, Lonnie Brown, and Rob Kass. We all enjoy doing the live broadcast. It’s particularly rewarding when a seasonal parishioner or someone who can’t make it to our service, stops by the sound booth and thanks us for what we do. The pandemic has had a few positive outcomes, our broadcast is one.
JR says,For me this has been a great learning experience, going from the iPhone to what we have now! This has been a true team effort. Each one of us brings unique skill.
Want to volunteer for this fun work? We are looking for additional team members. It looks intimidating, but it is not that hard. Please join us! You can ring the office if you’d like to join or stop by the AV booth after a broadcast.
