This series of meditative poetry reading is inspired by Padre Spencer\, who created the Red Door program at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Jackson Heights\, NYC. Here’s how it works: A poet reads one poem\, followed by ten minutes of silent meditation. The poet reads the same poem a second time\, followed by ten minutes of meditation\, then a short conversation with the poet concludes the gathering.

DESCRIPTION:There is a new weekly gathering available at St. John’s\, called “Keeping Quiet.” This group will meet on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is being led by Karen Rocky\, Kris Gridley and Susan Marsh. Our goal is to give participants a respite from racing minds and activity filled days by spending an hour together in quiet contemplation. Meetings will be held downstairs\, in the Johnson Library.
