Day 1: Meet in Jackson and drive to our campground for the night to prep for our next day's adventure. We will cook meals over an open fire and discuss our goals for the trip. Receive an orientation on group dynamics and backcountry travel to help prepare for our upcoming adventure.
Day 2: Travel to our backcountry expedition departure point. Over the next three days the wilderness will be our home. Students will learn how to properly pack a backpacking pack; the first of many lesson on living and traveling in the backcountry.
Days 3 & 4: The group will rise with the sun and get an early start on the trail. We will work on perfecting our map and compass skills, learning the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ of backcountry living, and mastering the use of Whisperlite stoves at mealtimes. Backcountry travel gives us the unique opportunity to come together as a team and cultivate an expeditionary mentality that will carry us through our trip in God’s creation. We’ll tell stories on the trail, learn about the region and enjoy the serenity of the area’s wilderness, all the while keeping an eye out for wildlife!
Day 5: We will wake up bright and early to emerge from the backcountry, having formed a strong group bond that will last a lifetime. We will have an action packed day and get a chance to rest our legs as we raft as a team through the Snake River Canyon. After our whitewater adventure, we will have a chance to take some well-deserved showers and debrief our trip together, before sharing a delicious and celebratory final banquet. We will have a chance to reflect on our many shared experiences over the last five days.
