Wait..what? Waiting as Spiritual Practice
We hear it every year- Advent is a time of waiting. What are we waiting for? Of course, we are awaiting the birth of Jesus, Christ coming into the world and our hearts again. Christmas is a beautiful day, well worth the wait, but is there value to be found in the wait itself?
Advent is the beginning of our Church year, and I find it interesting that this is how we kick off a new year, not with a big bang, but rather with a period of quiet waiting and reflection. Talk about counter-cultural!
Can cultivating patience become our spiritual practice this Advent? I certainly hope so, because if there's a time of year when my patience wears thin, this is it. Let's explore this possibility together. On the four Wednesdays in Advent, join us at 6:00 p.m. for a simple meal of soup and salad, some teaching and conversation. We'll wrap up by 7:30 p.m. and child care will be available. Please let us know if you need childcare by emailing Chandler.
Mary, Jimmy, Travis, and Brian will each lead a session, exploring how we wait. Let's savor this Advent time together.
