Volunteer Opportunities

Staff and volunteers come together at St. John's to work towards achieving the mission and vision of the church. We value the experience and insights of our volunteers and encourage feedback about our church, processes, and programs. Such feedback can be passed through the Rector or Vestry Members.

Caring Ministries

Position Title: Volunteer
Responsible To: Joni Mack Weed
Responsibilities:

Caring Cooks: respond to requests for home-cooked meals to be delivered to parishioners being discharged from hospital or other emergency, on an as needed basis.

Visitors: call on and/or provide companionship to the elderly or homebound in our parish; schedule could be flexible – once weekly or as available.

Transportation: provide a ride to church or doctor for those without a car; has flexibility in scheduling.

Transportation to Idaho Falls for radiation: periodically we have parishioners who need to travel for care on weekdays. A rotating schedule would be developed with many drivers.

Stephen Ministry: Stephen Ministry equips lay people, through 50 hours of training and follow-up bi-weekly supervision sessions, to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Stephen Ministers are there for his or her care receiver, meeting faithfully for about an hour each week, for as long as there is a need. Consider becoming a Stephen Minister if you are a good listener and a compassionate person.

Healing Ministry: train to pray one-on-one with parishioners during communion.

Shepherds: sign on to assist an individual or family with orientation to St. John’s, answering questions and introducing them to others in the parish.

Living History Interviewers: visit elderly parishioners with recorder and interview them, particularly about their connection to St. John’s. Each interview would become a part of St. John’s historical legacy, and the basis for a profile of the person in Revelations newsletter and the website.

Children
If you have an interest in children and their spiritual development, you are welcome to join in our programs. Teaching Sunday School, Children's Church or Godly Play is a valuable way to share your gifts with children. We also have opportunities for the parish to help with events like our Jerusalem Marketplace, Vacation Bible School, field trips or our Fourth of July children's games.
